Perhaps being tidy is best after all…

A debut by Bev Walton
Bev Walton

About the Author

Bev Walton lives in County Durham with her husband, teenage son and teenage Cavapoo, Blissy Boo. She is also a foster mum to two rescued fish, Chip and Ellis, who used to reside in her son’s bedroom.

After leaving school, Bev studied foreign languages before moving to Vienna, Austria to work as an au pair, where she looked after two young children and a dog named Wufa. She then worked as an airline stewardess for over thirty years and, during her travels, loved to write rhymes about her ventures and life experiences.

Bev currently works as a front-of-house receptionist at a local Well Being Centre, where she loves to create and perform the Children’s Storytime at the centre’s events throughout the years.

In her spare time, Bev loves crafting, cooking, taking Blissy Boo for walks on the beach or in the countryside, or anything else that doesn’t involve sitting still!

What clients say about us

The Tidy-up Terrors is a beautifully illustrated book, about tells a story of a boy who doesn’t like to tidy his room! When his mam asks him again (!) he reluctantly thinks about how to begin. Then the strangest things happen… his room turns into a mass of ‘rubbish’ monsters and before we know it he’s fighting dragons and sock monsters. The story is fast paced and the drawings are fabulous and any child who doesn’t like tidying their room will resonate with this picture book.

A massive 10 out of 5 starts from me!

A brilliant, rhyming tale; fabulously illustrated with included fun activities to engage kids (and adults)! Funny, well written and as a parent myself, totally relatable. A warning to kids everywhere!

What a simply superb story filled with humour, rhyme and rhythm. Bev Walton gives children a light hearted and exciting message about  tidying bedrooms , which I’m sure most parents and carers can relate to.

The Tidy up Terrors would be great for the reluctant reader as it flows so well with the valuable addition of fantastically detailed illustrations.

A great read which will appeal to children’s sense of humour and imagination.

This book was read aloud in my class to 25 children aged 6,7 and 8 for story time. They listened with such intensity and were totally immersed in the story.

The children appreciated the level of description written and the quality and detail of each image, both of which made the story a true success. So much so, that the children would love to hear of more tales about this boy! One commented “Does the author have any more
stories we can share?” The rhyme made the text easy and enjoyable to read to the class and lots of discussion
was had on some of the vocabulary choices! Lovely to introduce the children to new vocabulary too.

No matter how many times Mum asks her young son to sort out his bedroom, he just can’t be bothered.

That is, until some rather strange things begin to happen. It seems it’s not just Mum who’s tired of his mess…

Bev Walton’s debut book, The Tidy-Up Terrors, was originally written as a light-hearted tease to encourage her son to tidy his permanently messy bedroom.

The Tidy Up Terrors is a rhyming picture book telling the story of an untidy boy, who learns that perhaps being tidy is best after all.
